Polly Tavernia Appointed Beekmantown Assistant Superintendent of Special Services
It is with great pleasure that we announce the immediate appointment of Ms. Polly Tavernia as Beekmantown Central School District’s Assistant Superintendent of Special Services. Ms. Tavernia brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this important position and was the unanimous choice of each committee during the hiring process.
Ms. Tavernia’s extensive background in supporting students, families and educators will serve us well as she moves into her new role. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Director of Pupil Personnel for the District for the past three years. In addition, she worked in the special education division at Champlain Valley Educational Services as a principal, coordinator, teacher and teacher's aide. Ms. Tavernia also worked with children and families in her role as a caseworker for the Department of Social Services for several years. We are excited to continue working with Ms. Tavernia in her new role. Throughout the interview process she demonstrated an understanding of our strengths and where we can improve in the future.
We remain thankful for a decade of innovating leadership from LeeAnn Short. Her dedication to our students, programming, staff and her overall commitment to our mission made BCSD a special place for literally everyone.
The search committee was comprised of three phases outlined in our Board adopted procedure. Phase one was the administrative team, phase two was the stakeholder’s committee which included a cross section of our community including administration, teachers, Board member, support staff and a parent representative. Phase three was the entire Board of Education. We are thankful to the committee for their voluntary commitment to this worthwhile process.
Please find the time to congratulation Ms. Tavernia on her new position.
