Tax Exemption for Elderly

Property owned by one or more persons each of whom is 65 years of age or over, or owned by a husband and wife one of whom is 65 years of age or over, shall be exempt from tax in accordance with the following.

 

The Board of Education grants an exemption from taxation to the extent of fifty percent of assessed valuation of real property located in the district whose income meets the statutory requirements.

 

As of January 9, 2007, the income limit established by the Board of Education is $26,000. Contact your Town Assessor for more information and an application.

 

If you qualify for the Senior Citizens Exemption, you will automatically qualify for the Enhanced Star Relief Program.
