The Buildings and Grounds Department consists of the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, Building Maintenance Mechanic, 17 full-time custodial workers, worker, and four full-time maintenance workers.
Supervisory staff is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds and the Maintenance Mechanic, are accessible by cell phone in the event of an emergency.
CUSTODIAL
The custodial staff is divided into two shifts: five custodial workers man the day shift, with four assigned to the Main Campus and one at Cumberland Head Elementary. Included in their day to day duties are setting up and breaking down the lunch/breakfast rooms, delivery of mail to each of the four administrative offices in buildings, cleaning lobbies, hallways, and entrances as needed, emptying of garbage barrels during and after lunch/breakfast, setting up and breaking down for events such as graduation, etc., as well as answering calls for the many spill cleanups, locker jams and unexpected messes that occur continually during the school day.
Our evening shift consists of four custodial workers at Cumberland Head Elementary, and 12 assigned to the Main Campus. Although the students and staff are not in the building, the evening events that take place can often make cleaning the building a challenge. Evening custodial workers clean all classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, offices, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and the fitness center, in addition to the auditorium, kitchen and cafeterias.
MAINTENANCE
Beekmantown Central School District has three full-time maintenance workers. The maintenance staff is expected to repair and maintain the district’s massive heating/cooling system, boilers, furnaces, and heater units. The staff answers calls daily for repairs to all facilities in the district, which consists of repairs to plumbing, roofing, and electrical problems.
The maintenance department is responsible for maintaining the Main Campus’ 60+ acres free of trash, the sidewalks and parking areas clear of snow and ice, lawns mowed and seeded, and lining and preparing all athletic fields.
Thus far this year this group, with the help of the custodial workers, have completed over 160 work order requests. Many of these work orders have multiple repair/work requests on one form. In addition to the written requests, the maintenance staff is continually assisting staff/faculty with mishaps during the school day, as well as, any emergencies that may occur.
