FFA students read to 2nd-graders
FFA members celebrated Agriculture Literacy Week by reading to younger students.
Last week was Agriculture Literacy Week, and our FFA team celebrated by reading to the district's 2nd grade classes.
Four members of FFA, which stands for Future Farmers of America, visited classes at Cumberland Head and Beekmantown elementary schools, along with advisor Nellie Whelden.
The FFA crew told elementary students about the various agriculture classes that BCSD offers, as well as FFA competitions that they have the chance to participate in.
Then they read "The Pie that Molly Grew," a children's book in which a little girl who grows pumpkins from seeds then turns them into pie. Second-graders learned about the cycle of growth from seed to
Ms. Whelden gave pumpkin seeds to the elementary teachers so once the weather warms up, students can grow their own pumpkin plants.
